Got it on, panicked, pulled it straight back off

Question

Not a great evening. My first piece arrived, a fitted top, and I did all the right things. Cool room, powder, took my rings off, went slowly, got it on over about fifteen minutes without tearing anything.

And then I was standing there in it and had about thirty seconds of proper panic. Nothing was actually wrong. It was not too tight, I could breathe fine, I just suddenly felt very enclosed and had to get it off immediately, which I did rather less carefully than I put it on.

Is this a normal first reaction? I feel a bit foolish about it, and I do not know whether to try again tomorrow or accept that this might not be for me.

That happens to a lot of people and it does not mean latex is not for you. Two things usually cause it. One is heat, because a close layer warms up fast and warmth plus a racing heart feels exactly like something being wrong. The other is simply that the sensation of being held all over is new, and the body reads new and unfamiliar as alarming before it reads it as pleasant. Next time, cool room, something short sleeved rather than full coverage, and give yourself permission to take it off after five minutes with nothing hanging on it.

Good advice, and I want to add the one caveat, because the two things can look similar from the inside. Feeling closed in and needing air is a nerves and heat thing and it settles with practice. Actual difficulty breathing, a rash spreading, swelling, or your lips or throat feeling odd is not that, and it means take it off and speak to a doctor rather than trying again. It sounds like yours was the first one, given it passed as soon as you were out of it, but everyone should know the difference before their first wear.
